After finally have a great meal (with equally great service) If Dubai is supposed to be gearing itself towards a service-based economy, as is touted in the newspapers, then surely customer service here shouldve taken a turn for the better, right?
Apparently not... How many restaurants can you name with truly good service?
Ive only had it at a number of them, and even the expensive ones came up lacking...
So i challenge you, the reader, can you name more good restaurants than bad ones?

If you don't mind no alcohol, then try Finz at Ibn Battuta. The staff are lovely, the food is outstanding, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. It is five star restaurant quality food for mall prices - eg a steak that would normally be Dh120-Dh160 somewhere at the Madinat is about Dh50 at Finz. Beautiful meat too.
I agree with SD - the malls are starting to get some good quality restaurants. MoE has a section with excellent Indian and Lebanese, and the Indian at Ibn Battuta is also excellent.
Automatic in Jumeirah is another good one for food and service, so are several at Dubai Marina. Oh, and Souk Madinat's Al Makan, Dome...
In the hotels, Waves at Le Meridien Mina Seyahi and Dubai Marine Resort's Capanna Nuova all have good food and service. So do the Indian, Italian, Chinese at Metropolitan on SZR.
I could go on - the answer is yes, there are some very good restaurants around and I can name more good than bad in my experience.
I can name more bad than good, but there are many restaurants of note. Shabestan at the radisson sas is a great persian restaurant, with fine dining and quality service. Theres Lan Kwai Foong by Lamcy for proper chinese cuisine, and there are an array of steakhouses that stand out as well. I discovered a gem at MoE, the butchershop and grill is quite good...
