Did you see it?

Anyone walk by dubai marina recently?

I did, and I was humbled... I remember when beach centre first came up, and that was the BOMB. Last night, I ditch my friends to walk around there, and what can I say... Im scared.

Its not my Dubai, its big, bold, high, and mighty... Where are the days when I drive to my beautiful beaches at night? Those beaches now have towers looking down on them.

Its still beautiful....
and I suppose its for the better, just leave dxbs soul intact...

(BTW Wiseman this is something majroo7 jmeirah would say)

I miss the desert that used to surround my house... the beach was just a clear 5-minute walk. Now there's too much clutter. Everywhere.
Dubai’s future is worrying.
It might be the best commercial city on the face of the earth...
But it will continue to lose its veracity.
I wouldn’t mind moving to the desert in the middle of nowhere.
With every sand grain we will lose here, materialism will be born into a soul somewhere. Not that that hadn’t already started.
Shame.

"I wouldn’t mind moving to the desert in the middle of nowhere"... Ive considered that, for a long time Ive wondered whether my kids were better off living far from Dxb,,,

I dont think so though, I cant bear to live away from Dxb, my home...

Semper Fidelis I suppose.

i'd just discussed this with my family... the thought of wanting to move to the desert to protect my kids-to-be from all the nasty around here.
there's alota good...
but there's alota bad too... n i've tried quite alot of it.
i dont regret living the way i do at all... but i wouldnt want it for my kids. and in Dubai, u just never know anymore, u know?

I know,,, Thats why I considered it in the first place,,, Dubai of my childhood was safe for me, but growing up, it got waaay worse... If it wasnt for my friends, and I thank God for them, I wouldve been truly a lost man.

Ive doubted whether my kids (inshalla if I have em) would meet with good friends in the future... But then again I dont know the future, and if push comes to shove, I can always whisk em away to khawaneej or some faraway desert area in Dubai :-)

I've only lived here five years, and I feel the same. I really believe Dubai was a nicer place when I first arrived. It still had plenty of flashy bits, but there was plenty of natural beach, quieter areas, etc. Regardless of how beautiful the towers may be (Dubai Marina towers are, though JBR complex is not at all) I miss the simpler, more open way it used to be.

Unfortunately it's about to get worse if you don't like the progress that's already underway.

There are drilling rigs which are drilling test pilings on the free beach by the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

Apparently there are plans afoot to reclaim land and build 4 new hotels on this beach front.

There goes another free beach.
